Leaving a Lasting Legacy

Have you considered the change you could make in the world for people with intellectual disabilities, if you could make just one substantial gift? For many donors, the best way to see your vision accomplished is to make a legacy gift, leaving behind a better, warmer, brighter, and more inclusive future.

Community living means that all people, in all their diversity, are equally respected, free, safe, and valued for their presence and contribution to their community.

Community living means that people with disabilities are not limited by labels, but are supported and included to live an everyday life, just like other Canadians.

Community living means understanding that everyone, regardless of label, age, race, gender, or ability, has something to give.

Giving to community living means you truly understand that inclusion—full citizenship and broad participation in every aspect of everyday life— means a better life for people with intellectual disabilities and better communities for everyone else, too.

The community living movement across Canada builds awareness of intellectual disability and shares knowledge to change preconceptions, so all Canadians can enjoy the same choices and opportunities. And what could be more meaningful than building community capacity to support and include all people across Canada regardless of an intellectual disability?

One of the best and easiest ways to make a truly impactful gift is to leave a legacy. Planning a legacy gift is one of the most effective ways to help the community living movement continue to address exclusion issues well into the future. Not only can you help ensure that our efforts in supporting families, ending exclusion and changing the picture of diversity in Canada have lasting impact, but you can also reduce your taxes, supplement your income, and maximize the benefits to your estate and its beneficiaries.

What Can You Give?

Determining what gift is right for you is just as important as your decision to make a gift. Learn more here or contact us for more information.

A Gift in your Will

A gift by bequest in your will is an easy and attractive way to make a meaningful gift. Your estate will receive a donation receipt that will produce generous tax credits to offset any taxes owing on your terminal tax return.

A Gift of Stocks and Bonds

Your gift of securities, including stocks, stock options or bonds, is an easy way for you to make a current or deferred gift. By making a gift of your appreciated securities, you can avoid paying capital gains tax that would otherwise be due if you sold these assets.

A Gift of Retirement Assets

Your gift of retirement assets [registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs) and/or registered retirement income plans (RRIFs)] is an excellent way to fund a legacy gift. By making a gift of your retirement assets, you will help further our movement’s important work.

A Gift of Life Insurance

Your gift of a life insurance policy is an excellent way to make an enduring gift. If a life insurance policy is no longer needed or will no longer benefit your survivors, consider making this gift today to help further our mission.
