Since its formation in 1958, CACL has been a global leader in advancing inclusion. Through various initiatives in developing countries CACL has supported the formation of family organizations, and helped to advance inclusion in education and in social and economic development. That work is far from done. It is estimated that over 25 million people with intellectual disabilities live on less than $1/day, and in most developing countries less than 5% of children with intellectual disabilities get access to any education at all. CACL works with its partners Inclusion InterAmericana and Inclusion International to support implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities internationally.
